ACUTE ILLNESSES

An acute illness in medicine is described as a disease that is of a short span and appears suddenly. When one suffers from an acute illness, one tends to recover quickly, and there may be no need for one to take medication. The various conditions of acute illness tend to resolve rapidly independently or without any medical treatment. However, an acute illness might also be rapid at acting and critical enough that one might not make it. An example is a heart attack which is a fast onset, and it is a short-acting condition that can lead to the death of a patient or can be stabilized before a cardiologist finds the underlying problem. The term acute can differentiate illnesses from those that are chronic. Chronic diseases are illnesses that progress slowly and develop over time, thus becoming a long-lasting problem for the patient.
Moreover, a patient may develop a chronic disease from a sudden injury and vice-versa. A point to note is that the term acute does not explicitly mean that the illness is severe or lethal. Also, an acute disease could develop fast but cause more discomfort than anything else in a patient.

Symptoms of Acute Disease
Some acute diseases include the common cold, flu or influenza virus, and Covid-19 virus. One may experience the symptoms of; sore throat, cough, sneezing, fever, and headache. One may also experience a running nose, diarrhea, nausea, rash, sneezing, and headache. Fever occurs when a patient increases in average body temperature. A sore throat is whereby one feels pain or irritation in the throat. The irritation worsens when the patient tries to swallow foods. Nausea varies from one person to another. Dr. Di Pietro is one of the best cardiologists and a concierge care doctor in Florida at Fort Lauderdale. She often appears in the media, specifically the national news, to discuss health and other medical topics. Recently, Tiffany, the cardiologist, was acknowledged in the New York Post for her knowledge in concierge medicine. She spoke about the Covid-19 virus, which is a recent acute disease. She stated that many children are dying from the virus because the vaccines are not effectively working and because children do not have excellent immune systems to fight the disease. Dr. Di Pietro works with the medical concierges at level one trauma center at Broward health medical center in Fort Lauderdale to mentor residents to be future doctors. The cardiologist teaches at four medical schools as a clinical assistant professor, where she teaches third and fourth-year medical students cardiology. Dr. Di Pietro, while teaching cardiology, may tackle the examples of acute diseases and chronic diseases. While combating the conditions, the cardiologist will be able to highlight symptoms of acute illnesses and those of chronic ones.

Severe Acute Illnesses
Most of the time, acute illnesses tend to arise and go away on their own or with over-the-counter treatment with antibiotics or other medications. However, some critical acute conditions occur suddenly or rapidly and can show symptoms that cause the need to worry a patient because they could lead to their death. Serious acute problems include; asthma attacks, heart attacks, organ failure, pneumonia, and many others. An asthma attack is a condition where a person’s airways become narrow, inflamed, swell, and produce too much mucus making it harder to breathe. The state may be minor, and one can usually conduct the activities of the day, or it can lead to a life-threatening attack. A heart attack occurs when a blockage in the blood flow to the heart muscle happens. Organ failure is the stop of functioning of an essential body system. Pneumonia is an infection that burns the air sacs in one or both lungs, which may fill with fluid. These severe acute illnesses require immediate medical care to prevent fatal results. A patient seeking medical care or treatment of an acute disease prevents future complications or long-term problems.
